It’s an announcement bound to excite all motorsport enthusiasts. The fourth generation of the Fabia range, the spiced-up and sporty Fabia Monte Carlo, has been released here in Australia. The new Fabia is ideal for drivers who love being out on the road and behind the wheel of a car that unashamedly special. As well as providing drivers with thrilling performance, the new Škoda Fabia provides occupants with all the comfort, convenience and tech for which the popular hatchback is known.
The MONTE CARLO designation first appeared in 1936 – the magnificent Škoda POPULAR MONTE CARLO roadster – which capitalised on Škoda’s head-turning performance in the famous long-distance rally. In modern history, the tradition of models with a sporting spirit was revived in 2011 with the Fabia Monte Carlo.
From the outset, this tradition has referenced the brand’s motorsport success, offering sporty looks combined with excellent features and equipment.
The Fabia Monte Carlo has traditionally appealed to sport and active lifestyle enthusiasts. Several elements give the car a striking look, including black elements and details on the radiator grille, exterior mirror caps, the spoiler edge in the redesigned front bumper, the decorative trims on the side sills and the rear diffuser. The car is also fitted with exclusive 16-inch Proxima alloy wheels, or optional 17-inch Procyon alloy wheels with aerodynamic inserts in black and 18-inch Libra wheels.
Other exciting details have been added to the fourth-generation Fabia such as a MONTE CARLO plaque and badge on the steering wheel, tinted rear and side windows and the option of ordering a black painted roof.
The vehicle’s dynamic concept is also reflected in the interior, which is dominated by black paint with red details and a leather-wrapped multifunctional three-spoke steering wheel and handbrake lever. The decorative trim of the interior parts has been given a carbon finish and the sports seats with integrated head restraints are a dominant feature. Here you’ll find additional elements in red, a horizontal bar on the dashboard and striking ambient LED backlighting. Further enhancing the Fabia 2022’s sporty look are stainless steel pedal covers.
The new Fabia boasts a range of cutting-edge technology such as a 10.25-inch virtual cockpit whose layout is unique for this MONTE CARLO version.
The car’s convenient and practical features can include a heated windscreen, heated steering wheel and an infotainment with a screen size ranging from 6.5 to 9.2 inches. Connectivity is enhanced by an integrated eSIM, which lets the owner access Škoda Connect and mobile online services.
The Fabia Monte Carlo can also be equipped with the voice assistant Laura, which understands 15 languages. There are options for mobile phone mirroring or wireless charging and the Fabia Monte Carlo has up to five USB-C ports.
Safety equipment includes up to nine airbags, plus an array of safety system and driver assistance technology. Škoda’s comprehensive Travel Assist system enables assisted driving by combining adaptive cruise control, ultrasonic sensors and cameras, and a lane-keeping system. Parking assistance is a feature you’ll want to use all the time. And ISOFIX anchors can be found on the outer two rear seats and the front passenger seat.
You’ll be impressed with the Fabia Monte Carlo’s headlights, which incorporate LED technology as standard, with full LED headlights available as an option. Fog lights are available and taillights with full LED technology are another available option.
The new Fabia’s aerodynamics are exceedingly impressive. The MONTE CARLO boasts a drag coefficient of cd0.28, the best in the small car segment. The Fabia’s exceptional drag coefficient is achieved by means of special ‘louvres’ at the front of the engine radiator, which close off air access to the radiator when cooling requirements are low, thus improving air circulation. This in turn helps reduce fuel consumption.
Assisting the new Fabia’s reduced fuel consumption are four engines also found in the standard Škoda Fabia. A three-cylinder naturally aspirated 1.0-litre MPI EVO delivers 59kW of power and 93Nm of torque and is coupled with a five-speed manual gearbox. The five-speed manual transmission is also available on cars equipped with the 1.0-litre TSI EVO engine, which generates 70kW and 175Nm of torque. The more powerful version of the three-cylinder TSI EVO (81kW and 200Nm) offers a choice of transmissions: a six-speed manual and a seven-speed dual-clutch DSG.
The top-of-the-range four-cylinder 1.5-litre TSI EVO, with 110kW and 250Nm available, features a seven-speed DSG transmission as standard. In this version, the Fabia Monte Carlo is capable of reaching a top speed of 225km/h and can accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in an impressive eight seconds.
